Ava's Fall Decorative Tree

With winter rushing in I am already missing Fall and all of it's glorious colors.

 

 I decided I needed to do a project that brought more fall colors into my house.  I only have one more week until we decorate for Christmas so I thought I would squeeze this fall project in.

 Supplies: A couple of fallen branches, scrapbook paper with different patterns and colors, scissors, and tape.  I know this photo shows hot glue but, I ended up using tape.  Oh and a lovely assistant is fun too.  My assistant is shown below.

I cut out several leaves to cover the branches.  I just did a free hand easy leaf shape.

 

Ava is deep in concentration in this photo.  She took the project pretty seriously.  Since Ava wanted to help I switched from using the hot glue to tape so that she could help without getting burned.  It worked great.  She did such a great job that I didn't hardly have to tape any of them.  I love it when my girls want to get creative.

All done!  It sure makes me happy when I look at it.  Although the trees are bare outside I have this one to gaze at and enjoy these colors for a little longer.

I also wanted to show you a wreath I made last year to hang on my door.  I got the idea from  

Cheri at  I am Momma Hear me Roar.  I found the wreath at Micheal's, the leaves and acorns at the Dollar Tree.  This was hands down the easiest craft project ever!  It probably took me 10 minutes to construct it.  So, if you are looking for a simple and cheap project to put together before Thanksgiving--I would give this one a shot.

Fall Yarn Wreath

 I really wanted to make a yarn wreath this year.  I love how warm and pretty they look.  I am really happy how it turned out.    The colors are so warm and remind me of the trees in the fall that hung over the street that I grew up on.

 

 My supplies.  I pick Styrofoam wreaths when they are sale.  You can even find them at the Dollar store occasionally.  All of the yarn was left over from this project. 

 

 Wrapping the wreath was a little time consuming but, not too bad. I would wrap a small section in 1 color and then leave a tail out.  I would only hot glue that tail to the wreath.  Then I would wrap the next color which would end up covering the tail from the previous section.  Even though I only used hot glue on the tail the wreath and yarn are quite secure.

 How to make the rolled flower (rosette):

For this project I started with a 4 inch circle of felt.  Then start cutting from the edge in a circular pattern working my way to the middle.  Keep cutting in a circular motion through the circle until you get to the center of the circle.  As you can see the cut portion will spiral down.

 After you are done cutting you roll the spiral part back up by starting with the center portion.  Keep twisting the felt until the it forms a nice rosette.  After I am done I apply a little hot glue to the back side to secure it.

 Then you can hot glue your rosette to the wreath.  I had a couple of beads laying around that I glued to the center of each flower to add a little more color.

Then grab some ribbon to attach it to your door hook.  Give this wreath a try with any color you like.  You will love how it turns out!

Pom-Pom Garland

Can you tell I am a little obsessed with pom-poms lately?  I love these so much because it easy way to add  a little color and texture to any project.  Today I decided it was my mantel that needed a little more pop of Fall color. 
I made the same pom-poms from this tutorial.  I then strung each one 8 inches apart. on my 6 strands of yarn.  I measured my mirror and then added 40 inches so it would drape nicely.  That was it.  This was another project I finished during family movie night.  I like keeping my hands busy.  So, I am always thinking of short, easy projects I can do during the span of a movie.

I really like how it adds the subtle burst of color.

If you have any extra yarn hanging around you can put it to use and make one of these easy garlands.
